Salt Spring Farmers’ Heritage Foundation

The Salt Spring Farmers’ Heritage Foundation (The Foundation) is a “sister” society of the Salt Spring Island Farmers’ Institute. Under the name Island Farmers’ Institute Foundation, it was registered as a foundation in December 2002 and obtained official recognition as a charitable organization effective January 1, 2004.  The name was officially changed in 2014 to the Salt Spring Farmers’ Heritage Foundation.

The mandate of the Salt Spring Farmers’ Heritage Foundation is to encourage and promote agricultural education and awareness within the community. To achieve this mandate, The Foundation financially supports lectures and seminars, bursaries to students going into post-high school agriculture-related fields and, more tangibly, the Bittancourt Agricultural Museum located on the Institute’s grounds.

The Foundation can issue official tax receipts for monetary donations as well as for items donated to the museum. The Foundation hopes to encourage islanders to help save our farming heritage and retain an interest in the agricultural aspects of Salt Spring Island. Donations can be arranged by leaving a message on the Institute’s message machine at 250-537-4755 or by emailing ssifi@shaw.ca.
