Islands Farmers’ Institute Foundation
The IFI Foundation (or “iffy” as those who worked long and hard on its establishment call it) is a “sister” society of the Salt Spring Island Farmers’ Institute. It was registered as a foundation in December 2002 and obtained official recognition as a charitable organization effective January 1, 2004.
The mandate of the IFI Foundation is to encourage and promote agricultural education and awareness within the community. To achieve this mandate, the IFI Foundation financially supports lectures and seminars, bursaries to students going into post-high school agriculture-related fields and, more tangibly, the Bittancourt Agricultural Museum located on the Institute’s grounds.
The IFI Foundation can issue official tax receipts for monetary donations as well as for items donated to the museum. The Foundation hopes to encourage islanders to help save our farming heritage and retain an interest in the agricultural aspects of Salt Spring Island. Donations can be arranged by leaving a message on the Institute’s message machine at 250-537-4755 or by emailing ssifi@shaw.ca.
