Bursary
The Salt Spring Island Farmers’ Institute Bursary is presented to a Gulf Islands Secondary School student entering into
a field relating to agriculture, horticulture, or the sciences. The Bursary Committee independently considers all the
applicants for the annual Bursary of $1000.

Elizabeth Nowell
The Salt Spring Island Farmers’ Institute is pleased to announce that the recipient of our bursary for 2024 is Elizabeth Nowell. She has a stellar academic record having been on the Honour Roll since 2020 and the Principal’s list since 2022 Elizabeth intends to enroll in UBC Okanagan Campus to study zoology and wildlife management and wishes to eventually become a veterinarian. Living and growing up on a farm gave her the opportunity to learn about caring for and breeding animals particularly rare and endangered chickens. This experience has given her the ability to act as a volunteer teaching children about poultry and the general care of animals. This coupled with her volunteering at the Fall Fair has made Elizabeth an ideal recipient of our bursary.
